by Dan Totheroh
The story told is of twins born to the Emperor--a boy and a girl. Because a girl child is considered worthless, the girl baby will be killed. Wing Lee and Long Fo steal the girl child to prevent her death, but unkowingly they take the male child instead. They place the baby boy in a tub which floats downstream and is found by a poor fisherman. As the boy grows, he learns to fish like his father. One day soldiers find that he has caught a scarlet fish from the emperor's special pond, and he is brought to the palace to be executed along with his family. As they are about to be executed, the nurse sees the boy wearing the chain of jade that he wore when taken as a baby. When she finds out that the old fisherman found the boy in a basket in the river, she knows that he is the true son of the emperor. The emperor, who is on his death bed, rejoices that he will now have a male heir to the throne.
